Nceba

I took these dancer portraits of Nceba Ngubombini at the Dance for All studios in Cape Town.

Nceba joined Dance for All when he was a young boy. We talked about his journey during the shoot. It was inspiring to hear how dance (and the opportunity and safety Dance for All provided him with) changed his life.

He told me how he and his friends used to watch the dancers through the window. He started to train on DFA's Outreach Programme in Khayelitsha at Yomelela Primary School.

After being on the Scholarship Programme at Alexander Sinton High School, he then joined the dance for All Youth Company for five years.
He received a bursary to the Cinevox Youth Company in Switzerland for two years. During this time he was part of a musical for a year. Nceba returned to South Africa to join IKAPA Dance Theatre Company and also became a teacher and choreographer with DFA.
